Members Code of Conduct


1. General Principles

  • Members must uphold the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and responsibility at all times.

  • Holding a Firearms Certificate (FAC) is a privilege. Any action that could bring the club, shooting sports, or firearms ownership into disrepute is strictly prohibited.

  • Members are ambassadors for the club and the shooting community, behaviour in both private and public life should reflect this responsibility.

2. Compliance with Law and Regulation

  • Members must comply fully with all firearms legislation, licensing conditions, and police requirements.

  • Firearms and ammunition must be stored, transported, and used strictly in accordance with the law and FAC conditions.

  • Members must notify the club of any change in their FAC status or if subject to any police investigation that may affect their suitability to hold an FAC.

3. Behaviour at the Club

  • Treat all members, visitors, and staff with respect and courtesy.

  • No aggressive, threatening, or abusive behaviour will be tolerated.

  • Consumption of alcohol or drugs before or during shooting is strictly forbidden.

  • Members must follow all range safety rules, instructions from range officers, and club procedures without exception.

  • Firearms must only be handled on the firing point or in designated safe areas, always under strict safety protocols.

4. Behaviour Outside the Club

  • Members must conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on the club and shooting sports.

  • No aggressive, threatening, or abusive behaviour will be tolerated.

  • Any behaviour outside the club that could reasonably bring the club or the shooting community into disrepute may lead to disciplinary action.

  • Members must not misuse or recklessly display firearms in public or private settings.

  • Responsible use of social media is expected, no posts that encourage unsafe practices, illegal activity, or bring firearms ownership into disrepute.

5. Safety and Responsibility

  • Safety is the highest priority. Members must challenge unsafe behaviour and report any concerns immediately to a range officer or committee member.

  • Members are personally responsible for their firearms, ammunition, and associated equipment at all times.

  • Members must not lend firearms or ammunition to others except in compliance with the law.

6. Club Property and Facilities

  • Members must treat all club equipment, and its facilities with respect and care.

  • Any damage must be reported immediately.

7. Disciplinary Action

  • Breaches of this Code of Conduct will be taken seriously and may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or termination of membership with or without notice.

  • Serious breaches may also be reported to the police or licensing authority, which may affect a member’s FAC.

8. Commitment

By joining 1860 Rifle Club, members agree to:

  • Uphold this Code of Conduct at all times.

  • Act as ambassadors for the safe and responsible use of firearms.

  • Protect the reputation and integrity of the club and shooting sports in general.
